Easy
drawer organizer for kitchen cutlery and utensils
1: Measure the drawer
Lay out a large piece of paper inside the drawer that you will use to lay out the drawer contents. Do it in the most useful and space efficient way you can come up with.
2: Draw the layout on the paper
Figure out how many dividers it will take to get the lay out you want.
I wanted a large compartment in the front and one on the right side for a knife block that lives in the drawer. I found this one online and I like it because it holds steak knives in the back on top.
I did not worry about making the compartments equal. I wanted them to be functional.

Here's the paper after I took it out
Go to home store with measurements and find thin, cheap strips of wood that you can manage with whatever saw you have. I happen to have a jig saw. It made some minor defects and ragged edges that I was able to sand down with a file I also had around.
Cut the wood strips in the sizes you drew on the paper. for me, that meant six long pieces and four short ones to section off some of the long compartments.
the wood I bought was the perfect height for my drawer. I only needed to cut the length.
Lay out the cut wood pieces on top of the paper template and glue the joining edges with Clear Power Grab all purpose adhesive (or something similar.
******You can do this on a table outside the drawer, but I got worried that it might not fit when it was all glued together, so I pulled the drawer out of the cabinet and put the organizer together on the paper INSIDE the drawer.
Enjoy!

Where did you find the knife block? I have been looking for something to put inside my drawers.

Thanks for the idea for making a pattern, and I like your butcher block idea!

I love this project and am planning a n doing this. I bought a big sideboard which proved to be too tall for an island but cut the legs off and it was perfect! Just need to divide the drawers up so it is more organized
