Let the Grain Show Free Your Dresser From Old Varnish

I purchased this large 4 drawer art deco dresser on my local Facebook marketplace. I liked the shape of it and how spacious it was. I could see the grain peeking through but it was under dark varnish. Check out what I managed to do with this amazing piece!

It had stickers and marker marks so I got to sanding with my orbital sander. I used 120,220 and 320 grit.

Once the drawers were sanded I applied minwax penetrating stain. Here you can see the amazing wood grain peeking through already.

I painted the sides and part of the frame a very light grey color. For that I used valspar furniture and cabinet paint. With frogtape for delicate surfaces I marked out my design and used gold paint to create an art deco print.

Once it was all done I applied a polycrilyc clear coat to the wood surfaces for extra durability.
