MCM Geometric Mountain Mural Dresser
Since I thrift often I was asked to be on the lookout for a midcentury modern dresser by my daughter and son-in-law.
Not only did they want a dresser they wanted a mountain mural of some sort painted on it too. No pressure, right?
Enter this midcentury modern dresser fresh on the thrift store floor.
I decided not to tell them I found one and kept it a secret while I plotted what kind of mountain mural to make.
Once I prepped the piece (cleaned, sanded, wood filled missing veneer on the sides) I finally taped off a loose geometric design for my mountain scene using frog tape.
When painting midcentury modern furniture I like to keep some of the piece natural and doing a combo of paint and wood.
Since I am always painting I had several colors on hand I used. I mostly use chalk style paints.
Once I painted my mountain scene I gently brushed some white on the tops of the mountain “peeks” and removed the tape.
I then traced a lid to make a sun.
I mixed up some paint to get a golden yellow and decided to paint the base the same color as the sun to tie it all in.
I added three birds into the sun as I recently found out they are expecting a baby so I wanted to incorporate a special touch of their growing family.
Lastly, I used Wise Owl salve to seal the entire piece. It rejuvenates the wood and can also seal the paint as well.
I surprised them and revealed it to them on Christmas and they loved it!
You can find me on Instagram painting all the things. I also have a highlight saved on IG with a more in depth tutorial.
Stay safe and creative friends!
