Natural Woodland Nursery Dresser

This little dresser has already had one makeover-after I rescued it the first time, it was teal and sported a vintage map for a nautical theme. Now that its headed to the new grandbaby's nursery, the style is a black and white Woodland Dresser with birch tree inset and twig drawer pulls. So, what was nautical is now natural!

Here is the "after". The drawers and top remained stained, while the body of the piece went from teal to Behr Tin White Chalk Paint. The door panel now sports some lovely peel and stick birch trees and the drawer pulls are zinc twig pulls from Amazon.

The "before" was from a previous post back a few years ago when our first grandson was born. I had salvaged and refurbished it for my "nana-nursery". Having discovered that I really don't use it, I offered it up to my daughter for her Natural Woodland Nursery. Out went the teal paint and the map and in went the birch trees and white paint!

The thing about Amazon is that if you can dream it up, they most likely sell it! These zinc twig dresser pulls were used to replace the wood blocks that were original to the piece. The only trouble was that the knobs had two holes and the twigs had only one. Easy fix.

We decided to keep some wood accents to add some warmth to the black and white nursery, so instead of painting, I went with a stain. I plugged the original holes with wood plugs (you can buy them at any local hardware or big box store). Just tapped and glued into place. Once the glue was dry, I sanded the drawers, along with the door frame and the top. Then added the stain and poly I had on hand. Although the plugs are still slightly visible, they blend into the wood drawer enough to not be distracting.

When I first refurbished this piece the first time, I had added the vintage map to complement the "travel-themed" baby nursery. And yes, the map is upside down-I never even noticed it until I started replacing it with the birch tree paper! I had adhered the map with paper adhesive and then polyed over it- so it wasn't all that easy to remove. A LOT of scraping and peeling ensued!

This is the new door with some "peel and stick" wallpaper from Roommates. I had previously used this paper in a "log-cabin" room makeover. I didn't have enough leftover paper to cover the door panel in one complete piece, so I had to cut and paste several pieces together. Because the pattern is so busy and the trees were not sleek and smooth, I was able to cut and piece it, overlapping where necessary to hide creases and lines. But the good news is, if we decide to change it again, this time it will peel right off!

Loving how this dresser looks in the new Woodland Baby Nursery. It captures the essence of the woodland theme with the natural wood accents and the birch tree door panel.

I love it. The mix of wood and paint always looks beautiful. The woodland look is better than the nautical look. Great job.
