Painted Jewelry Chest

I recently gave my bedroom a refresh using items I had on hand. I wanted to add a pop of color to our dark bedroom. All of our furniture is dark wood, including my standing jewelry chest. Since it was cherry wood and didn't match the rest of our bedroom set, I decided to give it a makeover.

I removed the knobs to spray paint them with silver metallic paint. I also gave my DIY jewelry holder a matching coat of paint. You can get the tutorial for it here: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/organizing/diy-jewelry-holder-23145065

I used a sanding block to rough up the surface of the chest to help the paint stick.

I SHOULD have primed this piece first, since I was going from dark to light, but I was in a hurry. It took three coats of Deco Art's Harvest gold, but probably would have just taken two if I would have primed it first. The jewelry holder only took 2 coats. For the chest, I used a small brush to paint it on, then smoothed it with a small roller to remove the brush strokes.

After the chest was completely dry, I put the newly painted knobs back on and made a beaded tassel for it to give it a little flair.

The pop of yellow brightens up the corner and adds a bit of whimsy to my neutral bedroom.
