How to restore veneer dresser?
Curious if this dresser can be restored. My partner insists it is an antique. I would like to pitch it

When did veneer come into play with furniture? I have an old dresser that is supposedly from the late 1800's and it has
veneer.
I think it is lovely. Patch the piece of veneer that is peeling with wood putty then sand smooth. Paint the front and leave the legs and top the stained color it is. I think you will be very happy you saved it. You can use chalk paint that usually only takes two coats then add antiquing wax VERY sparingly to the trim and drawer edges. I think it is a keeper.
It definitely is an old dresser. Often when the veneer is chipped like yours, it's easiest to fill the spot with wood filler and paint that area. I wouldn't pitch it, dressers like this are well-built.

you could also repurpose it for something besides a dresser

If you can't face doing it yourself you could make it less visible by using Sharpie Pen in the right colour brown on the area. then clear nailvarnish only on the area. Or it may bepossible to disguise it using a wax crayon in the same colour. You can buy Waxes for repair to furniture. Hope that helps. Otherwise find a Furniture repairer to do the job!
It's older dresser. Paint it.

You can either remove the veneer or patch it, then paint it. I've done it on several pieces. I usually remove the veneer by applying a steamer and scraping off.
What a beautiful dresser. It is definitely old however they do not make that quality any longer. You could put Bondo or wood filler where there are chips. You could paint the entire dresser. New knobs or pulls. I would definitely keep it.
You could get some wood filled then when dry stain that spot they have a putty kind you just fill in the space
Sure it can. Lots of sanding and more them likely tightening of some joints....

Yes, it definitely can be fixed. An appraiser can tell you if it’s an antique or if it’s ditch-worthy.
