I Rocked the Rocking Chair!

My daughter had her eye on a rocking chair that I refinished, but it sold, so I have been keeping my eye out for a similar rocking chair. I found a second hand chair recently and was going to refinish it and surprise her for her birthday. But I decided to let her in on the secret so she could choose the color scheme.
The chair was marked $35, but I got it at 50% off. Bargain!
It was structurally sound but had scratches and light gouges on the arms, seat, and legs. I decided not to fill in the gouges as I think it adds to the charm. I did lightly sand them to blend into the overall finish.
The photo doesn't pick up all the scratches on the seat, but it looked like there might have been scratches from a pet. There were also some little teeth marks on the end of the rocker.
My daughter chose Aubusson Blue for the chair and Graphite for the seat.
I wasn't going to distress the seat, but it looked like a chalkboard to me, so I went ahead and applied some heavier distressing. My daughter hasn't seen the finished chair yet, so I'm anxious to see if she will like it!
I think think the blue pairs well with creamy yellow. She may want to get a seat cushion in a similar color as the yellow vases shown in the photo.
Painting the spindles is a bit time consuming, but the time flew by since I knew it was for someone that I love. :-) Overall I am very pleased with the finished chair. If my daughter doesn't like it then I might keep it for myself!

The cost of this project includes the cost of the chair and an estimated amount of supplies used (paint and wax).

Thanks for sharing it’s a gorgeous redo...I’m sure she will love it forever and if you want an idea for her next gift you can sew a custom cushion with some cool fabric that means something to the both of you! (I think of the pjs my daughter couldn’t throw away!)

Thanks so much Lrawlinson2017! She's been looking for a cushion without luck. I think I might sew one for her for Christmas. :-)
