Drawer Shadow Box Shelves

If you've been following along with us on our blog or here on Hometalk, you'll know the last furniture reclaim we did was our dining buffet - AND you'll know that we removed the top drawers. Well, you didn't think we'd let them go to waste, did you? ;)
Unlike the buffet, however, the drawers weren't completely solid wood. Three of four sides were. So I painted them up with some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and placed the ugly ends together, securing them with mending plates on the back side.
With some decorative paper and decoupage, I lined the bottom of the drawers for a fun pop of pattern and texture. Then to disguise the 'ugly ends' I stained a piece of wood trim and secured it to the middle of my 'shelf'.
Then, I spent what felt like hours trying to decide *exactly* where to put them! We secured them using small white brackets and dry wall screws and anchors.
And there you have it! Our up-cycled drawer shadow box shelves! I love the added depth they give our new living room gallery wall. For more on this project and others, visit our blog! www.diypassion.com - Thanks so much for reading! (And happy up-cycling!)

Would love these in a kids bedroom to house some of their favorite match box cars, etc. Awesome idea. You could either paint the inside, use left over wallpaper or how about contact paper. Great job.
