I passed by the dumpster coming home from my Grand Daughter's one day and saw this little platform rocker. Being a sucker for the down trodden I eventually got it loaded into my little car. Upon unloading was met by a skeptical partner who said I should have left it in the trash. I disagreed and felt like the little rocker just needed some TLC.
After a quick inspection of the broken platform I realized someone tried to repair it with finishing nails. I replaced the nails with screws just slightly larger than the original holes that had been stripped.
I sanded to remove the varnish and weathered wood. Then I painted the rocker with with a white wash of flat white paint. After it dried thoroughly I sanded it again with a medium grit paper to distress. One I achieved the results I was looking for I painted it with a clear poly and made a cushion with some Victorian fabric I had on hand. The end results was a quaint little rocker that was just shabby chic enough to fit my needs....
