Rose Stained Headboard Bench

Wildflowers & Pistols

In the picture below you can see what the headboard and foot board originally looked like. If you use pinterest then I'm sure you have seen lots of projects that turn old headboards into benches but, I'm willing to bet you haven't seen one quite like this!
This was an old queen size headboard and foot board that my mother in law picked up for me at a thrift store. It's original finish was worn and not in the good kind of way. Also - please excuse my pictures of the benches progress.. I used my phone to take those pictures and well, I dropped and cracked the back of my phone and the crack goes through part of the camera lens. Sooo, that's on my list of things to fix ;)
Before I decided to turn this into a bench I had started painting it. I thought I wanted to do a light blue and white... but, I wasn't loving it and decided to do something totally different. The picture above is when I decided to make it into a bench and wanted to actually see it - so this was just dry fitted together.. nothing was attached together yet.
I felt like it needed something to really pull the whole thing together. So, I decided to take some arm rests from an old chair and to use them on the bench. The fact that they were curved just made it work perfectly!
I decided to keep the trim work and accents white and then I painted the rest a grayish color. I used Wildflowers & Pistols Milk Paint. For the gray/tan color I mixed Zora May with Priscilla and for the white accents I used Priscilla. You can purchase the milk paint here ---> www.wildflowersandpistols.com
Almost finished! Now I just needed to sand everything so it was smooth like butter and to finish up the seat. I had a very special plan for the seat of the bench. :)
I love these colors together! It helps give this bench such an elegant look.
I'm SO happy I decided to add these arm rests from an old chair! And can you tell what my stained design is yet? ;)
I think that having the petals wrap down around the seat just make it look that much more beautiful!
My rose is my favorite design to stain! I do this all by hand. NO stencils. I used Minwax Stain in Dark Walnut.
*Sigh* I could look at this bench all day!
I'm very proud of how this piece turned out! I am an alumna of the St. John's Catholic School in Beloit, KS and this was my donation to this years benefit auction. (they are a very small private school in a small town and the auction helps them buy new supplies and upgrades etc.) I feel very privileged to be able to donate to such a great cause that is near and dear to my heart! :) I hope this has inspired you to go and create something beautiful!

This is awesome. I have that exact headboard but not the foot board. How did you do the bench? I love the color combination. Do you know anything about the history of the headboard?
