A $15 furniture piece that I snatched up from my neighbor got a simple & inexpensive makeover and it turned out stunning! It included chalk paint to cover the old blue color. (I chose a satin black.) And applying stain to the trim on the top surface and the inside of the shelves for an updated look.

BEFORE

This is the before--old blue paint and broken front door.

Started with a good cleaning, taking out the drawer to work on it ad removing the front door to expose the shelves. I painted it black, sanded a bit for a beautiful finish before applying a finishing wax.

I then applied old-looking scrapbook paper to line the inside and sides of the drawer with a decoupage paste (or you can use mod podge). I then painted the drawer to match the rest of the cabinet.

A simple switch was to replace the old wooden knob for a porcelain one. Pretty huh? Little details that make all the difference.

Minor changes for a completely beautiful finish.

Removal of the little door to expose the shelves inside gave it a different look.

Cleaning, chalk paint and a little stain here and there and you have a beautiful updated nightstand for very little effort!
