Sewing Cabinet Turned MCM Side Table
I often find these old sewing cabinets at the thrift stores.
They make the perfect size for a side table or small accent piece.
I loved the shape of this one and the Midcentury modern style. Plus I knew I could have a little fun with it.
I decided to sand all four legs down to bare wood. I love mixing it up and keeping some wood tones while adding color to a piece. I used my Surfprep sander and a medium grit sanding pad to remove the old finish.
I am loving this salmon color right now so I painted the base of the piece with it. It’s a chalk like paint.
I taped off the front and painted two shades of blue that complimented the salmon color.
At the last minute I decided to add some triangles to the front with a tiny stencil and you’ll see that in a moment.
I used Wise Owl Salve to seal the legs and you can use it right over the paint as well for a top coat.
You can see here how it really enriches the color of the wood. You just wipe the excess off with a blue shop towel and it will continue to absorb into the wood and leaves the perfect sheen.

Painting is so therapeutic for me. I really enjoy using an assortment of colors and adding a stencil for an extra fun detail to make each piece so unique.
