I have had this side table for a few years and it works perfect for my space. However, the top of the table is particle board wrapped in a wood look contact paper that had seen better days.
I didn't want to buy a new table because I really liked the leaf scroll design, so I was thinking of ways I could replace the top and give it a more sophisticated look.
I was in Macy's Backstage and spotted something that I thought would work great with this table.
The side table that I purchased from Collectionsetc.com for under $20.
I found this mother of pearl inlay tray at Macy's Backstage for $15 that was almost the perfect size for the top of the table.
I originally wanted to remove the old top but decided against it because the tray bottom was not very thick and I felt the screws might crack the mother of pearl inlay.
I decided to just lay the tray on the original top.
Gorilla Glue and X Acto Knife was needed.
I scored the contact paper and peeled a large portion back to reveal the particle board. I covered the area with glue and positioned the tray on top of the table and let dry over night.
Finished product.
This was not a hard or involved project, but I like that I was able to reuse my table and give it a new look.
I like how the table stands out and the mother of pearl catches the light.

I am glad to see a great idea for continued use of a piece of furniture. It goes nicely with your decor. Love the lampshade too!
