Beside Drawers for a Beachy , Coastal , Hampton Style
I’m in the process of a bedroom makeover into. Shabby /beachy style so buting new furniture isn’t in my budget so a make over will do just fine :)
here is a before pic and I’m thinking a lovely white chalk painted bed and drawera will look so much better
The old drawers I started by taking off the hardware and takin. Out side
I started with sanding using my electric sander and using 120 grit sandpaper the top had some nasty marks on it from hot coffee cups in the past so sanding until I could no longer see the marks was my best option
Once sanded I was left with a nice fresh new set of draws to start with I did give a wipe down with a slightly damp cloth to remove and dust from sanding
my next step was 2 coats of rust-o-luem linen white spray chalk paint i painted everywhere except the top as I wanted to stain and varnish that so I re added the hardware once the chalk paint had dried
my next step is the top and for that I used an all in 1 stain and varnish
I started with edges all round
Then applied a nice coat of the stain and varnish overlapping slightly so I had no lines or brush marks and ended up with a nice even coat
This is after the 1 coat I need to let that dry for 24 hours and then work out if I need another coat in most cases you would need at least 2 or 3 with a light sand between coats ..however as I am using a black stain/varnish I don’t want to really end up to black so I may just follow with a clear coat of varnish once I reach my desired darkness although his cost me $40 to do 1 set of drawers there is plenty of varnish left to complete the whole bed and other set of draws
i ended up doing 2 coats
And here is the finished product :) now to start the next 1 then the bed :)

What are draws?
I'm fascinated by your term "draws" rather than the American version "drawers". Is this a common Australian word ? (love the project)
What are "beside draws"?
