The Bed From "You Know Where"

Diamond In The Rough

I was trying to think of a name for this dreaded bed. Katrina came to mind. Why, you ask? Because it was a pain, like Hurricane Katrina. Customer wanted it to match the white on her vanity. I did not paint this but the person that did gave her the color and stain color.
The bed before is above://
So off to Sherwin Williams to pick up Chopsticks and Minwax stain in Early American. I mixed my paint with Websters and planned on getting this done and out in a few days. Easy right? WRONG!

When I cleaned the piece off I noticed a pink tint on the rag. I wondered what it was but didn’t worry too much. As soon as I put the first few strokes of paint, a bright pink immediately started showing. UGH! At least it started showing right off. Positive thinking ha! I put on my super cute mask since I am pregnant.
Cute, right? Anyway, I painted a coat to Zinsser Coverstain since I was painting it white anyway. Usually this and Shellac work for bleed through. YALL! It. came. back. through. Once I painted it white it came back through. Not through the primer but the paint. SO i sprayed 3 coats of Shellac and painted another coat of paint. Guess what?? it. came. back! So I did 3 more coats of Shellac and tried another coat of paint. It was almost all covered except the headboard and a few other places. I sprayed 3 more coats in the areas it was pink and painted one more coat of Chopsticks. Finally 1 coat of primer, 9 coats of shellac and 5 or 6 coats of paint, it was covered! I was using the sample size in Sherwin Williams so I wonder if I would have used paint and primer in one if that would have made a little difference?
I distressed it on the edges and few high points and put the Minwax stain on one section of a time and wiped off. I use a chip brush to blend if needed. Then I sealed with Minwax Polycrylic and hallelujah it is DONE!

KILZ! I had this problem painting paneling in a kitchen. Washed all down well with TSP, primed and painted. The "grooves" in the paneling bled through the primer and two coats of paint. I painted TWO more coats of white and it still bled through. I went to the local hardware store and they sold me a can of Kilz . . . I painted the "grooves" with it, then painted yet another coat of white over the whole thing. NOW . . . the grooves are nice and white but the rest was orangish . . . . arrrrgh! Now, whenever I'm doubt, I paint it all with Kilz first!

Make a bench. Use the headboard as the back of the bench. Cut the rails to the width of a chair. use the footboard as the front of the bench. Cut a piece of wood for the seat part and cover it with fabric. Chalk paint it with a bright color.
