The Night(Mare) Stand -- A Chalk Paint Makeover

Had I realized when I started this project that the “run-over-by-a-lawnmower” look was en vogue, I would have left this disaster alone. And been happier for it.
Instead, I went the torture route with this super-duper EASY and MAGICAL paint stripper.
What a pack of lies.

Stripper. Right. I can strip too, but at least I never promised it would be magical.

I got so disgusted that I threw this little piece of hello in the basement where it lurked for months, making lewd gestures at me when I wasn't looking.

I know it did.

In the meantime, this was my nightstand. Classy. Never mind the Vaseline.
Months later I brought Mr. Nightmare back upstairs to continue my torture. It sat in the kitchen for another month, untouched. Baring its teeth at me.

When I finally took it outside, armed with a sander, steel wool, and stripper wash, little progress was made. Philly came upon his damsel in distress and immediately took over the project. (I love when that happens.)
HE’S the magic man! And here’s his magical tool:
What you were expecting?

It was in terribly rough shape, so my plans of staining the top were right out the window.
After some bondo and priming, it got some new paint. Better paint. Prettier paint. ASCP Old White and Paris Grey specifically, with a couple coats of clear wax to finish the job.
I used Martha Stewart Metallic Thundercloud for the hardware. I also transferred a frame and some text to the top with a silver paint pen.
If you don’t speak French, and you can't live another moment not knowing what this means, you can google the translation. I don’t think Hometalk will let me spell it out.
Some pretty pink scrapbook paper for drawer liners:
If I had to do it all over again, I would have just slapped new paint over the old. Live and learn.

I love the after! I am so sick of furniture redos that need to be redone again!! Don't like "chippy", "country chic" or "pickling"...... wow, I must be getting old!!

I’m impressed, not only with your perseverance (and Philly’s), but your writing skill and wit! I would love to redo some chalk painted pieces, but I don’t know that I have the courage. Certainly not the energy of late. And no Philly. I love the design and writing font used on the top of the nightstand. Regardless of what it says, lol!
