This Painted Red Table Was A Huge Hit

When my friend asked me to makeover this little telephone stand she told me it looked "rough". I didn't really believe her until I saw it for myself. Well, she was right. I was excited to re-do this for her and bring it back to life.
She had seen the barn red night stand I had done and really loved the deep red color. She asked if I could use that red on this table.

I knew I wanted to create a slightly distressed look for this table so I started with Rustoleum flat black primer. This makes the undercoat black so when distressed later the black will show through. I love the look and the extra coats of paint are worth the time.

When the black was dry I used Rustoleum Colonial Red satin finish for the top color. I think I put two coats on it.

After the red was dry I used some sanding blocks to distress the paint. I love the way that some of the black and some of the original wood ended up showing through.

But the red was too bright. I fixed that problem by using Delta Ceramcoat Antique Wax for the final finish.

I used a brush to slather on a generous amount making sure to get it into the nooks and crannies. Then waited a bit before wiping it off with a lint free cloth.

I was super happy with the final result.
Here are a couple of shots of the distressed corners.
When I called my friend to pick it up she was thrilled with the new look and that made me happy!
