Trash to Treasure MCM Nightstands

Who doesn't love a good makeover?? One day I was scrolling through my local Buy Nothing group and saw a pair of *potentially* gorgeous nightstands. I just love how they turned out!

These beauties didn't always look like this but luckily I was able to see past their used and abused exteriors and bring them new life with some amazing paint and a little elbow grease. 😀

Here's what I started with!

I started by giving them both a deep clean. There was a bunch of sticky residue on one of the drawers so I used lemon essential oil to get it all off. That is my secret weapon for anything that doesn't come off with regular cleaning.

Next I gave them a really good sanding with my orbital sander. I also filled any small gouges with wood filler and sanded those smooth as well.

I decided on a two toned look with these pretty greens from Daydream Apothecary. These artisan paints are available on my website!

I painted the dark on top and light on bottom for one of the nightstands and then flipped the colors for the other.

This is a clay and chalk type paint that actually reactivates with water so I used a fine mister spray bottle and a separate brush to blend the area where the two colors meet up. I used a light touch and just went back and forth in the middle 3 or 4 inches until I was happy with the blended look.

Once I achieved the coverage and blended look that I liked I used a sprayer to spray on my top coat. I prefer this method because it provides a very smooth and nearly flawless finish.

I had so much fun staging these pieces and I really love how the flipped colors add just a touch of whimsy.

I hoped you enjoyed this makeover and thanks so much for following along!

You never would have guessed they were so dingy and ugly before the upgrade! Glad they got another chance, they look great!

What gorgeous colors! Love the way they turned out.will regular chalk paint reactivate with water too?

    • Thank you so much! It depends on what is in the particular brand of chalk paint. Some brands have built in sealers and therefor won't reactivate.
