Trash to Treasure Transformation

Do you see junk and the potential in it? Do you hate to see items being thrown out and feel a need to rescue them? Well, I do and that is the story behind this cabinet that I had to save.
Sometimes you have to look beyond that dirt, color and design to see a gem inside.
Step 1: Salvage this cabinet from the dump. It needed a face lift. The cabinet was just waiting for me to rescue it.
Step 2: Clean the cabinet. This cabinet must have been sitting outside or in a garage for some time, since it was so dirty and some sticky stuff inside of the drawer area. Wiping it out was not enough. I hated to do it, but I took a hose to the inside. Dried it good and let it sit outdoors to really dry.

Fortunately, it was all wood and the water didn't seem to damage it.

Step 3: Remove the top of the cabinet. The top seemed outdated to me although that was my husbands favorite part. After many screws and pulling and yanking, off it came.

I did leave some damage to the top. After much sanding and some wood filler and more sanding, it was ready to be painted.
Step 4: Once the cabinet was painted, aged, and waxed, I added some porcelain knobs that were off a dresser that had been my son's when he was a baby.
Here is the finish cabinet. You can see many more images and details on my blog.
Here is the before and after of my junk pile cabinet. Most of the time, there is a gem just waiting to be discovered. What will you discover?
