I came across this cute little side table at a yard sale for 5.00. The top had some damage but the rest was lovely so I did a really quick makeover.
Some damage to top of table
The table had good guts and had a lot of character so a quick coat on the top was needed to refresh it.
Sanding the top was not and option
I didn’t want to sand down the top and then have to try and match the bottom stain. So a chalk paint was a perfect option.
Such a cute little table.
I used a fine sand block to remove loose top coat and smooth out any dents. Wiped it down good and mixed up homemade mix of chalk paint. Anybody who knows me and my up cycle habits is to do as cheap as possible with materials I already have.
Materials
I used 3m fine sander to smooth Out dents. I had a sample bottle of Behr black paint. I mixed a teaspoon of powdered plaster of Paris to make chalk paint. after it was dry I applied Annie Sloan wax and buffed out.
Painted top with my homemade chalk paint
Here is my finished top which I love that it only took me a half an hour! So easy! If only the previous owner had thought to given it some thought to make it beautiful and keep it out of the landfill.
