DIY Sock Drawer Organizing

Time to organize the sock drawer! This is a small enough project to get through in just 30 minutes or less, and you won't believe the outcome. SORT and SUCCEED here in the sock drawer, and you can organize anything in your home.

Does your sock drawer look like this? START by removing everything and sorting into piles.

ORGANIZE into groups of similar items. You might have summer socks, dress socks, gym socks, and pantyhose (God forbid).

Next, REDUCE and RELEASE. Don’t think about it too hard. If you didn’t wear them in the last year, if they are worn through, if you are left with singles, or if the elastic is shot when you stretch them…evict them from the sock drawer!

Once you’ve created your sorted piles, you most likely need a reset. Do your socks now fit comfortably in the same drawer? Do you need a smaller drawer? One that is more shallow? A larger space?
Now it's time to RESET into containers. Always use something you already have before you spend money on the latest organizing gadget. I grabbed some small shoe boxes from my kiddos, and they fit perfectly. Some sock stacks went inside the boxes, and some went in the spaces between the boxes, Either way, they are now corralled.

You could stop here. After all, this is a huge improvement from where we started. But if you want to go a step father, why not make it pretty??
TWEAK your project with just wrapping paper and spray craft adhesive, start wrapping your shoe box! Detailed instructions are on my blog, but you can basically see how I did it here. Start with the long sides, then the inside, and do the shorter sides last.
Here are the completed boxes!
And this is my organized (and pretty) sock drawer!

Organizing is easy with these five simple steps: Start, Organize into groups, Reduce-Release-Reset, Tweak, and Succeed and Celebrate! Once you have a system for getting organized, you can do this with any space in your home.

How did you fold the wrapping paper over the top box like that? It is gorgeous.

I also use the inner section of a 24 case of beer. Especially useful for other "intimates" neatly rolled! Usually fits perfectly in dresser drawers.
