Can you put up shelves? Go to the Dollar store and buy some bins to store your creams and make up and put them in your vanity. You can hang pictures on the walls. , put your clothes in the dresser and closet, or get under the bed storage.

  • First, throw away anything that has expired or you don't use. Small containers on the dresser can be used for creams, makeup etc. Clothes can be folded and put in drawers or hung in the closet. Find a nice basket for pictures and books.

  • I hear you, downsizing can be stressful and so can clutter. The easiest way is to take everything out, ditch whatever you can or won’t use then assess what you’re keeping. Tailor the storage around that with bins or dividers. Hopefully that will help you!

Go vertical with a bookcase or shelving in any possible area of your bedroom or closet. Sort through all the items and put like with like, then put items in boxes or baskets that are not used at least once a week. You could also cut cardboard boxes shallow enough to slide beneath your bed to store any of those items not used very often. Just working through the items and discarding or donating items can free up some space and is good for you mentally. DollarTree has many organizational items that can help out without a great investment of money. It may take you a while to create a space in such a small area where you feel at peace and comfortable. Just start and try to make some progress each day. You'll find a rhythm that works for you so you can have a sanctuary when you need it.

Get some organizer plastic boxes from the dollar store, or if you are of a mind to, decorate cardboard boxes and organize your belongings according to uses, make up, nail polish...etc. Good idea to good vertical with a bookcase and store stuff there in labeled boxes or baskets.

I have to be careful not to make a "nest". I tend to like things I use a lot close to me and have to work several times a day to put things away. Clutter stresses me out so I make it one of the first things I do everyday is to put things up.

I take a small empty laundry basket and pick things up and put them where they should go.

I would add to the other's advice, utilize that underbed area for storage by repurposing old drawers with casters on the bottom, and a cloth cover; or get the plastic underbed storage (measure the underbed height before going to the store), I also have a cloth one with a full zipper on the top.

Then when doing client's homes as a caregiver to declutter, I add or replace the bedside table to one having 2-3 drawers, and the top can have a clock radio, phone charging station and a reading lamp.

I do go to the Dollar Tree for most of my organizing boxes, I like the colored shoe boxes that stack nicely. The long thin silverware organizers are great for the bedside drawers, and then they have about 3 other sizes.

You can also use a shower curtain with the pockets in the bathroom to organize, or a shoe organizer on the back of closet door or room door as an organizer gets lots of things undercontrol.

I also frequently add a second rod in the closet to expand its usefulness. I will move that shelf up, but leave enough room to slide some of those plastic crates on top to store out-of-season clothes. When you add the second shelf, you can add another shelf on top of the lower rod for shoes, folded stuff, just be sure to leave enough room under it so you can slide in the hangers. I just get some 1"X3" boards the depth of the closet with the doors shut, to use as the shelf supports, or you can buy the metal shelf supports if its a really long shelf that screws into the back of the closet door.

Another great storage area to add is a shelf over the bathroom door, for storing toliet paper, rolled towels or even your plastic shoe boxes for things you don't use daily.

Since you are going to be helping your mom, one thing to talk about is decluttering the whole house, this well help free up additional space for you. Plus when Mom passes it won't be so daunting a task to downsize.

Use Clear Polythene Storage Boxes for top of Dresser, Labelled and colour coded. so you know whats in where from a distance. If you have room under your bed use underbed polythene storage boxes. If you have wall space - Put up Shelves. Behind the door add Over door Hooks. If you have a chiar in your room with space under it - give it a skirt and pop stuff under that in a box. If you have a Hard Pelmet over your curtain drapes, use that area too. Best of luck! I have been where you are now! When you enter your room, let it be you get the sweet smell of calm via a plug in fragrance etc.......

I can relate - same age for me, parents are 88 & 90 and total pack rats. I've been sneaking bins out, going through them, and purging/donating/returning items.

As for your specific issue...First thing would be to look through and check expiration date of creams, make up, etc. Add some shelves to the top of the dresser like these:

    https://www.amazon.com/Organizer-Cupboard-Organization-Stackable-Expandable/dp/B08XQQXH8J/ref=pd_ybh_a_4/133-2418374-1616614?pd_rd_w=tZJ3j&pf_rd_p=45643f1d-9a87-41c0-924d-e7e382d48035&pf_rd_r=ED5AQQYJSTFWGQD65GK6&pd_rd_r=08174841-1db3-4566-bb2b-f6fc5685b032&pd_rd_wg=P03iU&pd_rd_i=B09J8756MT&psc=1

Then bins or baskets to group items together.

  • I would suggest to throw those that have expired or those that are already not in use. You can make use of small organizers for your products. Look for containers for some of the items to store it.

I would put all the clutter into the top drawer. Your face creams can be kept in the bathroom or hidden away in a small cabinet.

Get your self a small bathroom white cabinet with a door and shelf and put next to your dresser put all your creams ,perfumes ,sprays that stuff in that to organize I did this it helps because I know when I need something it’s in there then go from there. You need to organize to keep it clutter free. But it needs to be done so you could see stuff and be able to use it.
