Here's an answer I provided for someone else recently. Many minimalists and /or stylists suggest creating a 9-10 piece basic wardrobe to create multiple combinations.I'm thinking of going that route, when I will downsize in a couple of years or so. I already do not wear most of my clothes.https://www.realsimple.com/beauty-fashion/clothing/wardrobe-basics/essentials-for-a-well-balanced-wardrobe#basicshttps://www.gardenista.com/posts/closet-cleanout-the-only-10-pieces-of-clothing-you-need-organize/https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/311522499196996251/http://www.canadianliving.com/style/fashion/article/wardrobe-for-a-week-7-pieces-of-clothing-7-outfits30 pieces: http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/fashion/fashion-trends/stylist-wendy-mak-on-why-you-only-need-30-pieces-of-clothing-to-create-a-wardrobe/news-story/7c63686d9a0dd0c98bd902b1b58aa655https://www.elle.com/fashion/accessories/advice/g25668/30-fashion-staples-to-have-by-30/Helpful Reply -

Hello! First, think about maximizing your closet space. If you just have one rod on which to hang clothes, think about adding an extension rod so that now you have two rods, top and bottom, from which to hang your clothes. When sorting through your clothes, you should make several piles. The first pile will be the clothes that you like and wear most frequently. The second pile would be clothers that you like but wear just once in awhile. The third pile would be clothes that either don’t fit or you haven’t worn in a year. That third pile should be given to those in need, either your church or an organization such as the Salvation Army. This should give you more free space in your closet. Good luck!Helpful Reply -

You should take out anything you have not worn in a year. To best eliminate clothes, make 3 piles: one to keep, one to give, one to toss. Some people like to make quilts out of old clothes or give them to single parent church families. You might donate all or some of them to a charity such as a church closet that gives clothes to the needy.Helpful Reply -

If you live in a cold weather area, those bulky clothes can hog space! Best Idea is to put clean/dry cleaned winter clothes into space bags, the kind that you fill, seal and vacuum to shrink them. The flat bundles can easily be slid under a bed or tacked in another place. I put two wool queen blankets and a coat in one, vacuumed it and it was only about 2 inches thick and rigid enough that I could stand it up in the back of the closet! They are sold under several different names, Space Bags is just one of many...Helpful Reply -
