How do you make a closet bigger.

I live in an old home from the 50's and my closet is so small there is no way to build it out so how can I get the biggest bang for my buck and have it organized. Right I just throw things in there and it's a mess. I hate my closets.

Don't forget to use Space Saver bags for bulky things that are seasonal. They'll stay clean and take up very little room.
Closet Maid. I have done three closets in my home with their wire shelving and it works great. Ain't cheap but it doesn't look cheap when you are done either. Once you install the basic hanging system on the wall you can change your mind and reconfigure any time you want. Shelves to hanging rods to drawers or cubbies in any combination you want.
had the same problem, turned my smallest bedroom into a closet.
Lots of shelves and then find an old chifferobe for the hanging stuff.
