This is what I did, I have a huge walk in closet and felt the same way you do. I had some old bookshelves lying around. I spray painted them all the same color and then bought some baskets. I hung some of the baskets from the ceiling and used some of them on the shelvesIt really looked nice afterwards. If you have something like that laying around somewhere. It really looked custom after I was done with it.
Hanging some of the items on hooks on the walls in the closet.
Oh to have that much space! Lucky you! Every single item needs a permanent home. See if these inspire you!

You will also need to retrain yourself to put everything away every single day instead of just tossing in the closet and closing the door. That will be the hardest part.

We, too, have a walk in closet. Our first, actually. So when we were building our modest home I opted for not only shelving above left and right walls....i added gliding baskets to the end facing wall. It's the type usually used in pantry rooms for potatoes, onions, individually wrapped snacks and such. We still have every inch of the closet taken but it does stay organized.
