there are endless books .... but what I like to do is remove everything from my closet.

put like items in piles on your bed or a hanging rack. Choose the things you love and wear that fit you today. You can then either return your loved items to the closet in order of tops, pants, skirts, etc or put items you like wearing together, together. This way you'll have your favorate things together making mornings easier. If you have the benefit of several closets, keep spring/summer items in one and fall winter in another. I find the main purpose of this reorganization is to truly keep what you love and feel good wearing. What you have to ask questions about you might simply want to donate, or clean and list on eBay. Another option is to have a girls night where you all collect your clothes in good condition and do a swap party!

Girls just want to have fun, no matter their age, and this way you can still enjoy some of the things you once loved without cluttering your closet and you can all have a new to you piece without spending a dime! Just my thoughts!

Your first step will be to purge it. Go through everything and anything that you haven't worn within the last 6 months can go. You can get boxes for free at grocery stores, either use them as is or you can decorate them, to help break things into groups. Amazon has a closet bar extender that will double the amount you can hang up that cost under $20. The Dollar Tree is a great place to get shoe boxes and other containers at a cheap cost.

I did mine by adding a double rod to create twice the hanging space. First see if you need to move the top shelf up by measuring the length of the hanging tops and then the length of the folded pants hanging down below, if they will be dragging on the floor, you can move the shelf up a few inches. Take the shelf down, and move the 2 wooden boards on either side of the closet up the amount desired, screw back in place and reset the shelf.

If you still want some long hanging space get a 1x12" board the height of the closet from floor to the upper shelf. This will require 4 angle irons from the hardware store. Position the board so its in a position to support the 2nd closet rod, seperate the space, allowing door to still close, slide, then screw 2 angle iron braces to the bottom of the board and into the floor. Level the board and then screw 2 angle iron braces to the board on top and into the shelf, make sure your screws don't go through the shelf.

Next you will need a wooden closet rod the width of the closet from either side to side, or from your upright to the side of the closet from the lumber store, 2 wooden cross braces 1x3" the depth of the closet, Add the 1x3" cross braces to both sides of the closet, or to verticle board, making sure its level and the rod will be supported in the middle of the board by the cup-shaped hardware. Screw into wall making sure you hit the studs. Then screw in your 2 pole hardware on either side.

Hopefully you can still access the shelf with some plastic cubes to store your out of season clothes. If not get some thinner plastic containers or soft fabric cubes to put up there. Hope thats clear.

Hello Shannon Rowell Vianello :) You can get some boxes for free from grocery stores if you call ahead of time and find out from the manager what day they have deliveries and make arrangements with him/her to come pick some up. Build yourself some shelving in the back or sides of the closet using cinder blocks/bricks and some wood planks (almost free except for the cost of soap, bleach, water, scrub brush, and then some wood sealer after the wood has thoroughly dried -- make sure it is pallet wood with HT stamped on it OR no stamp at all, otherwise it was treated with hazardous chemicals). You can use the wood and cinder blocks to make shelving, and the label the boxes and store stuff on the shelves (you can "pretty up" the boxes if you want to by covering them with inexpensive wrapping paper). If you know how to sew and have any material laying around (or can get some inexpensively ... like at Walmart or even from buying something at Goodwill and taking it apart to be made into something else) you can make yourself some hanging shelves with it (and the flaps from the carboard boxes you got at the store) --- or maybe you could find some for a few dollars at the dollar store near you ... as well as some plastic hanging shoe organizers (or make them yourself and use them to store shoes, slippers, hats, gloves, etc). I also think it's a great idea to store out of season clothing in any empty suitcases you may have, PLUS utilize the spaces UNDER your bed or dressers, etc. by putting things in shallow boes or zippered plastic bags and labelling them. You can also use tabs from pop cans to slide over the hook of a hanger to create a "double" hanger, by hanging 2 things in one space that way,
