I have the smallest closet in the house but, the most clothing. What is an easy nice way to organize my clothing? And what gives you more space? Folding things on shelves or hanging things?

Utilize every surface you can. The wall above the doorway is great for hanging hats, hooks on walls can hold purses and scarves, and lots of shelves and stacks. I prefer hanging, but feel like shelves give more space. Good luck!
  • Other then buying tiny clothes there is not much you can do. I have installed all sorts of closet organizers that make it easy to find things and such, but they end up taking up more valuable space limiting how much stuff you can put in them. There are gadgets sold that let you hang more stuff on the rod and doors, but careful as the weight can cause issue with the door frames and bend or even break the rod.

When I had a super tiny closet (3.5' hall closet) I would rotate my clothes. I had 4 boxes, one for each season. Every 3 months, everything in the closet was put in a box and everything from the next box was taken out. I noticed that before that, I would use the same clothes over and over because it was always on top. After rotating, I got to use more of my clothes. I only hang things that need ironing. Everything else went on hanging shelves which allowed more stuff to fit. Plus the shelf over the bar always has boxes for intimate stuff. I still do that even with my current walking closet.

I'm kidding, I have the smallest closet I've ever had in my life. And my guy is not motivated to do anything about it. It has sliding doors and I kid you not, when I put a sweater on a hanger the shoulder hits the door!. There is no way to make it bigger. So this is what I had to do, shoe racks, put in two shelves above the hanger pole. Separate clothes and shoes by seasons and put those away in plastic bins. I actually found the room to put my suitcase on top of the shelves. I came from a four bedroom 3 car garage home, with a walk in closet that could fit an assembled crib.

If you fold everything, I usually ended up with a pile of half folded clothing. I hang as much as I can, because it stays neater than folding (unless the folding goes in drawers.) good luck!

Buy under the bed storage units and use those for off-season clothes, seldom used clothes, or bulky items, etc. I've found those pocket storage deals you attach to the back of closet doors very good, too. Have also used those over-the-door hangers for a lot of things. Shelves are OK if you have plastic containers to put things in - otherwise, the clothes are flopping all over the place.

I did this in my son's closet when he was in elementary school. Perfect solution!

I have a tiny reach-in closet, and I took out the side-to-side hanging rod and put in one on each side of the door, front to back. Then I put a short bookcase in the center back wall to put folded things in. Suitcases go on the floor, with out of season clothes inside. Shoes go under the bed in boxes.

Have you put in double horizontal rods or even 3 rods if the closet's ceiling is high enough. I did and put the off season on the top.
