New Use for an Old Cassette Tape Holder

I saw this cassette tape holder at the thrift store for $1 and new I wanted the challenge of making it into something fun! I created a bedside table organizer and it works great!
I covered the fronts of the drawers with a piece of plastic that my husband had. He scored it and snapped it to size for me. I wanted a little more detail so I added a small strip of balsa wood to the front toward the top.
Then I started painting. I am wanting a new bedding set so I painted to match it. I used spray paint that bonds to plastic. This is my new best friend. I seem to use it for a lot of projects.
I used a cream/white for the base and orange for the drawers.
Then I stenciled/painted some swirls on the fronts of the drawers and the top of the base piece. I used green, light blue and orange for the swirls. Again, this matches the new bedding that I want.
I painted some small wooden knobs and glued them to the front using wood glue for the drawer pulls.
This is how my space looked before the organizer. (such a mess, I know)
And this is what it looks like now.
Much better, right?
I love it! Please visit my blog for more fun projects!

Did you put something in the bottom of the drawers so it's "closed in"? It looks like there is something there under the scissors. Mine doesn't have a bottom in the drawers, just the little slots on the sides to slide cassettes into. Wonderful idea and exactly what I need!!
