Hello. Do you have any specific questions in mind.
Very often when considering upgrades or refurbishment I look for Internet visual clues. Have you thought about searching the visuals on Pinterest or Houzz for ideas and trends? There is a wealth of ideas and visual inspiration there for your consideration. That might lead you to decide on an idea or theme. After that I’ll be assembling materials and starting your project.
Lots of ideas at home improvement websites since you didn't give much of a clue.
What's the layout of the room? Can you post a photo?
Can you give us more specifics? One fun way to design a room is to use an interior design app on your phone to space out your furniture and see a "template"

The very first criteria to consider is how you want the room to "feel". Do you want it to feel moody and dark OR bright and invigorating. A good way to learn what you'd really enjoy is to look at multiple ideas either in magazines or websites and save the ones that you most like.
Better advice could be provided here, if you were able to provide more speciics about colors you love, size of the room, window placement, what type of surfaces your floors and walls have, etc.
