Its beautiful Antique with wooden inlay. I wouldn't change much on it for do to damaging the value. But that's me. Polish it? Paint it? Refinish? Change the bedspread?
I would paint it of your looking to make it more modern. I prime furniture with a gripping primer and paint with a latex and it always works well. There are all kinds of specialty paints and chalk paints available too so you can get really creative!
