Use Pillows Thread on a Pole or Velcroed to headboard and buttoned...........
I had my local Home Depot cut a piece of plywood to my preferred size. I used spray adhesive to hold 2 inch foam (on sale) across the surface. I cut the foam about 2 inches wider and longer than the board to soften the edges and covered that with a layer of quilt batting. An electric knife is great for cutting foam. On top of the batting is the fabric. I stapled the fabric and batting every inch or so to the back of the board, pulling it taut as I made my way around the board. I used a polyester silk shantung, also on sale, but it is relatively inexpensive and holds up well. I hung the completed project over the bed with french cleats. I found it to look elegant, feel comfortable when sitting up in bed, and was economical. It’s been a couple of years since I made the headboard (and was a gift), but I believe the grand total was about $60. No tufts but looks great.
