There are many things you can do to make the bedroom more relaxing from the color of the walls, the decor, and anything stored in the bedroom. For example, calmer colors like blue, brown, or light green are calming vs a red or yellow. Activities such as a good book to read or calm background music are calming for atmosphere and rest. Curtains drawn that keep the room dark even before sunset and after sunrise help to keep the room calming. Surrounded by the things you love on the walls helps too. For example, if you are a person that loves the beach then such prints or decor of sea shells and/or palm trees may give you a feel of relaxation in your bedroom. This can include your bedding and pillows. On the other side of the coin consider what should not be in the bedroom. You do not want elements there that remind you of work or busy activities. A desk with bills piled up, an exercise machine of some sort, and a tv should not be in the bedroom if your aim is to feel calm and relaxed there. Depending on the size of your room, you may want to have a small sitting area where you can read or spend time alone listening to music. We actually had a small library and sitting room off our bedroom in one house we owned and it was what we needed after a stressful day at work. We downsized to a smaller home and I miss my little sitting room to unwind after a busy day. Basically consider colors, atmosphere of rest not work or active play, and surrounded by calming objects. I love horses and I put two horse lamps in my bedroom on the night stands. I also have horse bookends, and a photo of a ranch with a rancher out checking on his livestock in the winter. Family paintings of quaking aspen in the fall and our 3 children when they were small give my room a cozy feel. All these surround me in my bedroom and it makes me feel at home and very relaxed. Decorate your room with what appeals to YOUR calm, comfortable side. Some people are dog people, some cats, some plants. Think of what makes you feel relaxed and make that your them in your bedroom. I hope this gives you some ideas to help you get started. Good luck with that.
