as my family is moving to a new house, we are considering to throw away this old closet, or refresh it, just give it a try for fun. Any suggestions to give it a new look?

  • I wouldn't toss it unless you have no room for it. I would paint it to go with the decor in your new home!

Never discard a great storage cabinet!!

Paint it, add some decorative brass pieces to the corners of the doors to give it an oriental flair!

Brace it for adding shelves, then paint it and it becomes a pantry!! It would be great in a utility room or as storage in a garage.

Yes, paint it, cover it with fabric or scrapbook papers or wallpaper. Here's your opportunity to get creative. Decoupage whatever you like on it. Make it a fun, out-the-box type piece that is the focal point of the room (if that's what you want). Or paint it the same color as the walls where it will reside so it blends in. Your choice! Good luck!

I would sand it lightly and restain or paint as suggested above. Can't tell if the handles are wood or bakelite (old plastic type), if they are bakelite don t paint them, they are collectible. Just clean them .

Some of the old wardrobes have thin side & back panels and are not good for adding shelves. You would want to make a freestanding frame that can be attached to inside to attach shelves to.

wait until you are in your new home to decide how to refinish it.

Please don't discard that beautiful piece of furniture. We painted a same height cabinet with an implement that gave it a grained effect. If any one in the household is a painter they could maybe paint a design on it. . . anything they like. I do decoupage so I could see this piece having that kind of treatment. One bureau's face I decorated with a poster, and used its theme of wine to add add'l decoupage pieces. Gluing something on the piece can also be easily removed. You could also stencil it or just plain paint it. I would not do anything like destroying any of its originality. It is a very nice piece.

You can paint it then paint a design, decoupage or stencil on top of the paint. Get new knobs, so fill in the holes before painting. You could replace the hinges with the invisible ones. it looks like the two front feet are different, replace them with matching ones. you could put a decorative trim on the doors. There are many options. Have fun playing with colors and textures. Good luck with your project.
