Looking for ideas on making either loft bed or hanging bed.

A 6 year old nephew was attacked and seriously injured by a vicious dog. He is now afraid to go to sleep for fear that dog will get him. (The dog was put down and tested, etc. after the attack.) Perhaps a bed with a lot of open space would help this little guy. His mind can't seem to grasp that the dog can no longer bother him because the dog dragged him off to an arroyo. Any creative ideas would be so welcomed!

Make him a porch swing type bed, I have seen them on our local yardsale sites. should be easy enough to make. make a wood platform for the mattress, use a matching headboards from twin beds (or design your own sides), for the back use a framed piece of wood or spindles. I would also put a bar across the front since he is only 6 and has had such a trauma. I know my 7 yr old gd would love one. You could also just take bunk beds and make his the top one use the bottom by putting a piece of plywood in the railing and padding the rails with pipe insulation. make it into a tent or fort with cloth or if you have a handyman in the family you could have them use plywood to make it a real fort. Prayers for this precious baby.

How about a bunk bed with a ladder and use the bottom part as a desk or play area. Make a big deal about how a dog can't get up the ladder to get him if it's (ladder) removed once he's on top for the night (but he, himself, can safely get down if needed to use the restroom, etc.) by climbing down a 'cool' way like a knotted rope. Poor guy!

You might put a "bed tent" on the top bunk so he feels enclosed and protected. Maybe he could zip it closed. I sure hope he feels safer soon!

We used regular twin mattress size boards and mounted one side to the wall and the other side to heavy chains from the ceiling that would hold the weight ..There were no legs. It looed as if it was floating . Good luck..

If he is 6 ,he is old enough for a bunk bed. You could find one online for cheap , & take the bottom one out , & make a study area for him ! Gos bless him , I hope he grows out of it. Dogs can be so wonderful !
