Your room is beautiful the way it is. Mixing patterns is very chic and you've done a good job with the scale of the different patterns. Your furniture is much too pretty to paint it. The only thing I would suggest if you do want to paint it is to do a white wash. Water white paint down, paint it on and let it sit for a short time and wipe it off. Maybe do a test somewhere it isn't noticeable.

I would not paint the bed. I would keep the spread and the curtains. I would pick up the color of the chair's back ground and re-upholsterer the head board, remove the white pillows and replace with the head board fabric. The colors would pop

@Eliesa @ Pinterest Addict Gorgeous and rich colour you have there!! I'm not a 'wood purist', but your set looks so lovely! If you do wish to paint, you certainly could go White. I personally like your different pattern selections. I agree with @Mary I. , they look very chic. Everything 'matchy, matchy' isn't necessarily good ;). If you decide to paint the bed White, you could use the same curtain fabric and re-do the headboard insert, which would not be difficult at all, and would 'tie' the fabrics together around the room. BTW, I love that chair! Will you be leaving it in the room? If so, you could bring some of that red to either 1. Hard Accessories on the dressers or 2.Soft accessories on the bed. As an alternative to painting the bed, you could do a partial fabric panel utilizing the curtain fabric placing it behind the bed, which would then allow the wood colour to 'show' and still tie in the fabrics around the room. Just a couple of thoughts!

  • Great ideas, thank you! Yes, the chairs (there are two!) are staying. Can you believe I found them for $19 each? And, they came with two large table cloths, so I could use them to make pillows :) s

I think everything looks and matches great, but the chair is very out of place and kind of throws everything off.

@Eliesa @ Pinterest Addict Oh my! You got more than a steal! FAB score!! The pillows will look just wonderful! xo

    Your furniture is great.

all you black patterns work very well together however as much as I love the pop of red on the chair I feel it would be better if it were a solid vs. patterned red. Gorgeous!!

I love your room! I would probably put a pink dust ruffle on my bed to match the chair because I'm bold like that. Or the tan in the headboard could go pink as well. Then one tiny pink pillow on the bed. Please don't paint the bed, it's beautiful. Another idea is paint the small chest behind the chair two colors from the chair. Ivory and pink. Other than that, it's gorgeous.

I love your room. The only suggestion I have is to redo the fabric on yourheadboard... maybe white... it's a beautiful room

  • Lgsmith Lgsmith on Jul 30, 2013
I love the color of the chairs and it's great that you have fabric to match. What a wonderful deal on the chairs. Definitely keep them..

The over-stuff chair needs to be removed from the room as it is cluttering the space. I cannot tell from the picture , but do have 5" crown molding?

  • Kathy Kathy on Jul 31, 2013
Love the room. I think change the material on the headboard to white and make a small pillow to put on the bed to match the chair.

Instead of painting the bed, possibly painting the wall behind the bed a lighter color so the bed, that great little wooden table in the corner and the painting over the table would stand out. IMO, love that chair.

Beautiful room, make two pillow shams (to replace the two white ones) from your fabric, buy a similar solid color sheet and remove the white from the bed, it's too stark & conflicts with the headboard. I like the neutral headboard. You could add a few accessories to the room in the red/pink color. Another nice look is a runner at the foot of the bed, if you have enough fabric. About 24-30" wide and long enough to go over the sides of the bed (like a quilt). You could back the runner with the sheet color to match. May need to add one smaller accent center pillow or something whimsical like a vintage teddy bear.

I agree to do the headboard over in white would be great. It is such a nice bedroom set that it would be a shame to paint it. However, I think the chairs would be better done over, or fitted with slipcovers. Perhaps a solid color would be better with a bright throw there and at the bottom of the bed. You have far too many patterns going on right now.

  • Virginia Gastelum Virginia Gastelum on Jul 31, 2013
I think I would paint the wall white, that has the bed on it. I would not paint your bed.You have a beautiful bedroom set.I have to agree, you have to many patterns going.

a medium gray would work wonders , and do a white fabric on the headboard. The patterns with the bedding and curtains do justice with Gray & White. If Grey is to much for you doing a thick strip pattern of white and gray could work too. Did my bupstairs apartment all gray with white trim on windows and doors ,baseboards. But also did the Celling Gray, the outcome awesome! Modern but yet. My 21 year daughter will not move out .

  • Karen Smith Karen Smith on Jul 31, 2013
did see it before but even the chair would match with all above mention.

  • KrysFL KrysFL on Jul 31, 2013
I agree with @R.V.R. Farris just paint the wall behind the bed a light color (maybe a light tan) and call it a day. It will automatically tie everything else together.

  • Attiser Attiser on Jul 31, 2013
I would also suggest to paint the wall white or very light blue and remove the chair or upholster it with white linen. You have a beautiful bedroom but too many patterns increases the complexity.

  • Z Z on Jul 31, 2013
I used to feel the same way about so many patterns in any one thing/room until I worked in a fabric store a couple decades ago and the quilters taught me to love mixing patterns. So yes, I understand why so many feel that way, but I still love it. It takes talent to be able to mix patterns so beautifully and @Eliesa @ Pinterest Addict most definitely has that talent.

Gosh all this advice is mind boggling! What ever will you do? I love the pink/coral touch..bring a little more in with accessories. Definitely leave the chair..makes the room look homey and comfy! Ha! Arent you sorry you asked? Let us know what you do?

  • Ann McKenna Ann McKenna on Aug 01, 2013
I agree about painting the wall a lighter tan. Bring the chair color in on the headboard and in a pillow on the bed. I wouldn't paint the bed. Love all the patterns! If you are going to remove anything from the room, I would move the brown chest out, move the chair into the corner, replace the table lamp with a floor lamp, and I would definitely add a med.- lg rug if it's not too busy. Please post your end result!

BEAUTIFUL room, only things I'd tweek would be to add a little more of the chair background color someplace in the room,,maybe a bolster type pillow on the bed and another pillow in the patteren chair fabric..I WOULD NOT TOUCH THE HEADBOARD,,,its to beautiful and neutral ties the color of the chair in..I LOVE PAINTED FURNATURE but,but only if not in great shape, here I think the plain fabric gives your eyes a place to rest, which every room needs when you have patterns. If painting the furnature I love the mix of black paint and great wood on one piece, I think this may be the case on the table in the corner.. BTW great find on the chairs....

  • Judy Judy on Aug 01, 2013
Just remember if you paint the bed white, it may look a lot bigger and change the whole look of the room! Maybe play with the photo and whiten the bed in the pic so you can see how it will change. :) I love it, and the suggestion of adding coral on the headboard is genius!!

  • Patricia Brining Patricia Brining on Aug 02, 2013
I would paint the wall a tan and do a white slipcover on the chairs! This would make the room look larger crisper clean lines. More cohesive= your headboard would blend! When you get done it will let you know if it feels right for your style or if you want to change the furniture to a painted finish. Personally I feel the tan paint and chair covers will pop your room. It will make the headboard of the bed blend beautifully! I will make the furniture blend. It will feel peaceful and pulled together + a space to truly unwind! Enjoy!

My gut loves the chair in this room even though my brain says it shouldn't go. I love the navy walls and absolutely love your bed. I wouldn't recommend painting it. I actually like the idea of an accent wall and if possible, removing the cedar chest (I think that's what it is) and replacing the lamp with a floor lamp. I'd definitely addsome shades of the chair color to the pillows on the bed as well as use sheets in some other color than white. Also, I like the fabric on your headboard, it adds some neutral.

I love the color and fabrics/patterns in your bedroom including the coral. I love the headboard and wouldn't change it as it goes wonderfully with the coral. There does need to be a pop of corral on the bed and perhaps on the left side table. I think what is throwing off the balance for you is the white base of the curtains and bedding, and the cream base of the chair against these curtains and bedding. I really think your choice needs be white or creams but not both. I also think that the picture of the flowers really goes well with your wall color;however there is something jarring in that corner. I agree with @Ann McKennas suggestion to move out the light wooden table/chest and bring in a floor lamp. This would leave more space for the wonderful chair and give you a lovely quiet space for resting with a good book. Oh there are so many choices for you, that is the exciting part! Have fun deciding, I think we are all waiting with bated breath to see you next picture! Hope this helped. :)

I personally would not paint my bed. I would leave it all the same other than, get a slip cover for the chair, in a basket weave, striped, or some pattenr in the blue background and white as striping. Then I would paint the frames to all of my wall pics in white. I would also find three small pics that match others, and hang them over my bed. And purchase a rug to go under bed, maybe a blue and white floral print. I love your colors and you did really good, but DONT paint your bed,,,,hehe

  • Nancy Hatcher Nancy Hatcher on Jun 29, 2014
I agree with all the comments about NOT painting your beautiful bed! The dark blue paint is beautiful but it makes the room look "closed in". Your chair is gorgeous but this room doesn't do it justice. I'd either move it to another room or toss a throw over it. I'd also move the little corner chest to in front of the window and put a chair in the corner. That would help the flow of the room better, won't look so crowded and allow the pretty picture to show better. The curtains and bedspread don't do much for each other. I would change one or the other and find simple patterns (stripes or...) or use a plain white shear curtain to take advantage of more light.

  • Rhonda Clements Rhonda Clements on Jun 29, 2014
No way I would paint that gorgeous bed! Paint the wall a soft white and get a solid curtain to match the beige in the chair. Too many patterns for sure.

  • Jennifer Godwin Jennifer Godwin on Jul 03, 2014
Well, did you end up making any changes?? If so, would love to see pics. :-)

  • Becky Moore Becky Moore on Jul 03, 2014
I would change the fabric on the headboard to something with peach in it...even a small tone on tone peach and leave everything else as is.

  • Tracy Bromage Tracy Bromage on Feb 21, 2015
I love the wall colour, my suggestion, for what its worth is to change the curtains to a similar but smaller pattern as the bedding. then also recover the lovely wee chair in a rich navy with a chosen complimentary colour. the mismatched furniture can be blended together by sanding and rewaxing in the same shade or wax or same colour as bed.(beds lovely) add throw and cushions in the small chair fabric and complimentary textures and colours this should pull it all together an almost gorgeous room.

  • Karen Karen on Feb 21, 2015
The curtains are a bit much, something not so busy. If you are going to keep the chair, try adding that color somewhere else in the room, like pillows or flowers. I agree with maybe changing the headboard color.

  • Donna Donna on Feb 22, 2015
Maybe if you brought in some white framed paintings and slipcovered the chair in white with a red accent pillow.

  • Peggy Peggy on Feb 24, 2015
I like this room as is a lot. I think I would change the headboard insert to white and use the material you have to make pillow shams. I would put the cedar chest in another room so I could move the chair more into the corner. Plan B would be if you have enough material you could use that for your headboard. I would still use the cedar chest somewhere else. I love your mix of patterns.

  • Catherine Catherine on Feb 24, 2015
If this was my room I would remove the chair, although it does I suspect serve a purpose, and the hope chest near it. If I could afford to I would have an upholstered wing chair in a solid lemony yellow colour as that would complement the existing colours quite nicely. I would add the same colour to the bed in some accent pillows as well and I would not paint the bed but I would put the yellow fabric over the existing fabric in the headboard. That's just my taste though, your room is lovely as is.

  • Lori Lori on Feb 28, 2015
I love this room. I love it. Please don't paint the bed and don't take down the curtains. I agree that the bed is lost a bit so what I would do is, if you can get more curtain material, buy more or another panel and some white quilted cotton like in your spread. Then, make a swag, joined above the bed on wall and swag each side over to fall directly behind each bed post. Make the swag by dividing up the white, edge it with the curtain material so when swaged you see white with a blue and white edge. Can you see this in your head, I may not be explaining it well enough? If you do nothing whatsoever, it's still beautiful.

  • Patricia Norman Patricia Norman on Nov 15, 2015
I would put more color to the insert on the headboard. Then I would match the cover and the curtains to that.

  • Jean Thompson Jean Thompson on Nov 20, 2015
Solid color Navy on the Chair. Don't paint the Bed, you could add more Tan into the Room ( its a Neutral ) with Pillow on the Chair and a Throw on the foot of the bed. and use Tan or White Sheers at the Windows ( even under the Drapes you have up.).that would Frame the Bed - in a lighter Color over the mini blinds. Maybe Paint the Hope chest in Tan and lighter Navy? The Square Shade and that Lamp don't really go with the Curves in the rest of the Decor.. Love the Drape Fabric, I am not a fan of Geometric patterns..Just my thoughts. What does the Rest of the Room look like?

  • Kayo Frazier Kayo Frazier on Nov 24, 2015
Here's my 2 cents...I would remove the hope chest, it makes that corner very cluttered. I would keep the curtains & bedding. I would change the headboard insert to the same blue as the walls BUT about 3-4 shades lighter so it doesn't disappear into the walls. I would slipcover the chair white. I would change out the blinds for sheers.
