We are excited to bring you this quick and easy DIY backyard deck. It's the perfect place for some summer grilling. This is not a complicated build, and it also did not take too long to make.

DIY backyard deck sketch

1. Visualize the deck

Here’s a quick sketch I did of the layout we desired in the backyard. It helped us to visualize what we wanted to build.

Supplies for the deck build

2. Pick up the supplies

First, we picked up all of the supplies and loaded up everything into our Honda Odyssey. Van life!

Clearing the areas

3. Clear the area & dig holes

We cleared the area that we had picked to build the deck. We used post-hole diggers in order to get our 4x4 posts deep enough to hold for the long haul.

Dropping 4x4s into the hole and adding cement

4. Cement the 4x4s in place

Next, we dropped in the 4x4s and added cement for extra stability.

Making the deck trim

5. Make the trim

Then, we added the trim pieces.

Fastening everything together

6. Fasten everything together

We used L brackets and wood screws to fasten everything together.

Deck support beams

7. Add in support beams

Next, we ran support beams about 16 inches apart.

8. Make the deck out of 2x6s

Then we ran 2x6s in the desired pattern we wanted.

We finished off with rose stone pavers and a grill to do all those summertime barbecues on! Let us know your feedback in the comments below.

Hope y’all enjoyed and happy grilling!
