How can I make a 4" wide bracket for a curtain rod?

I need 3 brackets for a curtain rod, it needs to extend 4" out from the wall.

You can purchase the brackets the size that you need. I got mine through Sears a few years ago.
it might be easier to just buy them from the hardware store
I got mine at under $10 for 3 .and the extra long rod was separate.
The bracket adjusts in and out w a small screw.
I have seen them at Lowes and at Penneys....
