Kelli is right about the hardware being expensive, irregardless of whether you use cheap scrap wood, or high-end lumber for the door.
Depending on the weight of the door, you may need extra heavy duty hardware for mounting it so that it is sufficiently supported while hanging still, and in motion. Generally the stronger, thicker, and larger the hardware, the higher priced it is.
