If your jig saw is a good one, it should work. But first drill a starting hole with drill. I once cut a hole though a side wall into the yard to make a dog door. Mill age 90.

A jig saw should work just fine... just drill a starter hole in each corner first

Sure just mark the out the outline of the doggie door using a level, tape the edges to prevent splitting, drill a hole in a corner to insert your jig saw and saw away. It might be easier to drill all 4 corners, just make sure the hole in in the part to be removed.

Yes a piano hinge sure lasts, but leather works and size of door, test him in store. Show box pictures, eyeball with a little extra, pup now?, fat?

Jig saw will work. May take some time and slow going. Don't force the cut too much. have some extra blades just in case.
