2x6 Counter Top

by Cleo Douglass
We got 2x6 pine and a pocket screw gadget, a belt sander and palm sander, some stain and polyurethane. Made these great counter tops from scratch.
Absolutely love them.
Measure the sizes you need, we added 2x2 end pieces. Put the 2x6 pieces on a long table on our patio. Used the pocket jig according to the instructions, being careful to match the pieces as close as possible,(this makes for less sanding later).
Sand pieces with belt sander first then fine sand with palm sander. Stain, let dry. Put four coats of polyurethane. We caulked the seams with painters caulk( to fill the seams). Let it dry, put stain in the seam, let it dry. Cover with two more coats of polyurethane and install. We are 65 and 74 yrs. old . If we can do it anyone can. Don't forget to lightly sand between coats and tac with cloth. Final sanding, just use a paper bag. Makes it smooth and keeps the shine.
