Hi, I'm Amber Oliver! I hope if you enjoy this project you'll also stop by my blog!

Pocket hole joinery is one of the best ways to conceal your screws when woodworking. When making furniture for example I always use these and put them under where no one can see them. But what about when you can’t hide them like where I had to join this vertical board into the countertop for our new bookcase? Let’s hide these holes!

The absolute easiest way is to fill with wood filler and sand. But for this project, I wanted to use pocket hole plugs.

These solid wood pieces completely fill the hole and looks great once finished. they are high quality, trimmable, and easy to paint or stain.

To start, add a small bit of glue to the hole.

Insert the wood plugs and allow plenty of time to dry before you attempt to trim them down!

after dry, use a flush cut saw to trim away the excess wood. Be very careful here not to damage your wood. I thought I was being careful and holding the blad flush but it still dug into the wood and left a ridge. Try adding tape to the blade or putting a playing card under to protect the wood!

Now you can sand and paint or stain. If you gouge the wood, use wood filler to fix then paint!

I like to coat the plug with glue rather than squeeze glue into the hole. I also have used wood dowel rods. The plugs can be expensive if you use a lot.
