IKEA NORNAS Sideboard Makeover

I took an old IKEA sideboard that had great bones but not much personality and turned it into a gorgeous custom piece for my living room that adds so much life to the room! It was so easy to do, and if you've got any paint and stain laying around it's a free project, too! If you like this project, you can see more easy, affordable DIY projects on my blog!
This is what the sideboard looked like before I got started. It was pretty, but the wood was plain and unfinished and the feel was a bit too modern for our style. I wanted to give it a more custom feel and add some warmth to it.
I started by staining the outer edges of the piece (the top, sides, and bottom) with a stain I had leftover from another project. Then, I taped off all of the places where the outer edges met the inner shelves (as seen above) and I painted the shelves white. Don't forget to sand in-between coats on your paint to ensure a smooth, factory-like finish! Once everything had a chance to dry, I came back in with my paint sprayer (here's an affiliate link for my favorite one!) and added a finishing coat of polycrylic to seal it.
To give the piece a more farmhouse feel I also switched out the baskets for woven baskets, and did some more styling on the shelves. Just switching out the baskets made the piece feel a lot less modern and a lot more "me"!
