An easy to do project that can be customized for the space you would like to place this table in.
I needed a small lamp table to go in next to some shelves that I had made for a bedroom. I cut the sides and shelves from 1x12's. The sides were cut to 22" and the shelves were cut to 19". I placed the bottom shelf 3" up from the bottom of the side 1x12. The second shelf was placed 10" above the bottom shelf.
I cut a 1x4 to 3" in width and 20 1/2" in length. Just for fun I cut some curves onto the piece. The holes you see on the board is where the screws will be going to secure the board to the table. I will then put wood plugs into the holes. They are 3/8" birch wood plugs
The bottom board is in place as are the front 1x2" boards. The 1x2's on the side of the table are 17 1/4" long, the center 1x2 is 17 1/4" in length, the top 1x2 is 20 1/2" in length. I used a 3/8 rounding router bit along the inside edges and the bottom 3" board.
For the top of the table, I joined a 1x3 to a 1x12 that was 24" in length. I ran the top through my table saw to make the actual width of the board 13". This provided an over lap to the table and enough space so I could cut the front corners into a round shape. I could have stained the table or painted it, but I chose to simply sand it all down and apply three coats of semi gloss polyurethane . Once the unit was dry, I attached the back which was 1/4 birch plywood
The piece is complete and custom fit for the space I had available between the shelving unit and the bed. The longest part of this project was putting on the coats of polyurethane, waiting for them to dry and then putting on additional coats. The total cost was around $35. You might be able to buy one already made, but I needed this custom made to match the rest of the room as I slowly remodel it with the matching finish. Plus, when its all said and done, I can look at the finished product and proudly say, "I made this"
