I have a shelf unit I want to store swimming pool items like towels, suntan lotion and etc. outside my backdoor. This will get sun all day.

Hi Mamabear :) Love that name :) so, I would think that you want something that breathes so you don't accumulate a moldy interior due to moisture plus heat (Heaven forfend! That stuff can be deadly!) So MY first thought was to attach material to top of the shelf unit with velcro strips that you can buy at any fabric store or online (you can get some pretty ones, too, at some "big box" DIY stores that can hold down tarps in a wind). In fact, a tarp attached at the top and along the sides can protect the shelves, and the gear from rain and wind, as well as sun. Otherwise I would think maybe somehow attach vented shutters to them to allow some sort of ventilation to prevent mold and mildew. I hope these help your creative juices flowing ;) Thanks for sking Hometalk for answers and good luck on your project :)
