You can cut pieces of plush carpet and place the carpet side so it is on the floor. That will work if you are moving heavy furniture across a wood/laminate/tile surface.

I take a quilt and double it to move heavy furniture
Hi Bernice. I recommend using upside down pieces of carpet to use as sliders. Some carpet stores will give away small pieces left over from prior jobs. Or even car mats would work too. Good luck Bernice.
Hello Bernice,
If the floor is smooth and shiny - place a thick piece of carpet or a rug underneath the item to be moved (Pile side to the floor) and Pull/Push. If Carpet floor - use a smooth strong (Vinyl flooring/Tarpaulin / hard Plastic sheet) under the furniture and then slide it along (Pull/Push). Hope that helps!
Have used large yogurt container tops on carpet to slide stuff.

Small braided rugs or braided placemats work great.
Upside down carpet and yogurt lids work well, also we have had store bought ones, but then have them hanging around when the move was over.
Hi Bernice, hope this helps.
To slide heavy items on hard floors like wood or tile, use a thick towel or rug with a soft side that will glide across the floor. For moving heavy items across carpet, use thick cardboard or, better yet, old Frisbees.

Hi Bernice: I have even gone so far as to put a sock over a cleaned out butter tubs, put the furniture legs into the tubs and then slid the couch or chair. Of course this won't work for a fridge or stove : - /
You need something heavy duty to handle the weight of the furniture, tennis balls would hold up to that challenge.

Hey All I found a new one!! I am not sure if these exist everywhere but where I live they now use these toppers for cans.
Step 1. Drink the Cans (optional).
Step 2. Cut the toppers into singles.
Step 3. Lift a leg.
Step 4. Move the "thing".
Good luck. Lift with your knees!
Hi Bernice, you can move thing easily with these, and they can stay under the furniture once you've finished moving it.

To move items on hard floors, use a heavy blanket to slide the items.
To move heavy items on carpeting, Use towels and cardboard: Try slipping something underneath your furniture's legs. Instead of lifting the piece to do this, rock your piece forward or backwards slightly to slide the material underneath the legs. The furniture will move easily across the room.
I have used quilts, blankets, pieces of carpet. Harbor Freight and WM sell dollar store sliders.
Either Timber and Casters or Skateboards or Buy them in DIY Store.
