You can measure and get a new piece of tempered glass or have some wood cut to fit. If you do wood, you can paint or stain.
you could try a glass / window company to see if they can do it or measure and cut wood and paint or stain it!
If glass is no longer an option (tho a glass company Can do it, just depends if it’s in your budget). A wood insert, however I would tile the top so it weathers better. The top can also be a different shape to allow a little more room. Just have to figure out how to attach to frame. Perhaps u-brackets underneath?
I agree with Carol.
Personally, I would probably use MDF board to make a new top

Cut a piece of plywood to fit and put it on. From there, you can add tile or make a mosaic for it.
