If you are in a small area space like an efficiency apt there are several things to do to make a desk... you can take 4 cinder blocks stacking them 2 on 2 at opposite ends and place a sheet of ply wood on them.
You can take 2 two drawer file cabinets and space them apart and put a board on them, you can also use re-purposing wood, shelving, old table top... just about anything with a flat surface.
