Wouldn’t it be tempting to remove traditional cabinet box entirely; and put in either a glass footed or marching cabinet door over the full sized box cabinet that will not only add more usable space, but also add the adoption of adding slide outs and lighting in the process? Why arent you using studs studs to mount to?
Hi Kathy,
If you just move the cabinet forward, you lose all that possible storage space. You could buy or build a 24" deep cabinet carcass and re-use your existing cabinet face frame and doors. It would be attached to the wall using the same cleat system that is in place now. If you want to move the cabinet forward, you can buy 24" metal L brackets designed for countertops. You would attach those to studs in the wall and then to the bottom of your cabinet. This will move your cabinet out to where you want. You would probably have to screw through the top of the cabinet into a ceiling joist to help support the cabinet being loaded that far from the wall. If your cabinet has decorative crown molding at the top, you would need to attach a piece of wood the same thickness to the ceiling joists and then the cabinet to that cleat.
