How to build a garden bench?

Linda
by Linda
I have a Beautiful Heart shaped Memorial Garden in My backyard that I made for My Mother who passed a year ago. It has a variety of some of her favorite flowers. I would love to build a bench to put beside her garden so that I can sit and admire her beautiful garden and think of the wonderful memories that I have of her. I have no idea where to start on building this bench. All ideas accepted. Thank You

What a sweet garden & so thoughtful! I saw a DIY bench made with wooden crates & stair treads. Seemed easy enough. You can always Google DIY garden benches & see what pops up! Good luck!

What a beautiful way to honor your Mom. I wish we lived closer to each other. Our son is a woodworker so I asked him what he would make. He said he would go to a park find a design you really like, draw it and use the drawing to make your bench. Make it only for two and put arms on it. He also told me to say he is sorry for your loss, and you did an awesome job for your Mom. The best of luck to you Linda.

What kind of garden bench would you like to build? I just searched on pinterest 'how to build a garden bench' and there were thousands of different options, all with pictures. You can build something as simple as placing a board loosely on top of some cinder blocks or bricks or you can build something with wooden legs and seat and back or you can upcycle old chairs into a gorgeous bench and paint it your mom's favorite color, maybe with some antiquing paint methods used. I have a bench like that and another that was created with lumber scraps. Another cheap option is finding one used at a yard sale or thrift store and painting it or staining it to make it match your needs.

    Have fun!

Pinterest had an easy bench made out of painted concrete blocks and 4x4 posts. Seemed easy to do and inexpensive.

This was going to be my suggestion, as I have seen them built. You can even paint the blocks any color you want. Did you do a search at the top of the page, there is probably many ideas right here on this board that might suit your needs. Good Luck, I have my folk memorial in an oak barrel that I got from my dad's house.

What a sweet memento to your mother! Another option to getting a bench is to keep and eye out in your local craigs list, yard sales, flea market, friends, neighbors, or family members and see if you can find a pretty iron and wood bench. People get rid of things they don't want to clean up and fix and you can find a nice pretty bench that all it may need is to be cleaned up and either painted or stained again and it will look brand new. It takes very little money and a day or two of work on your part and you'll end up with something that looks brand new and would have cost you 60 to 80 dollars to have bought. Very easy to bring back to life as long as the bones are in good shape.

There is one online where you make one from a twin head board and foot board.

It's very cute when done. Plus you can find the bed at a thrift store so you save big bucks. just look online for instructions. Here's a few you can check out.

It depends if you'd like a wooden bench or a stone bench. Even a metal bench or mix some materials...

I'm thinking more of a wooden bench
