Before you put in an island, you have to make sure you have the room for it. There should be at least 36 inches all the way around the countertop part of the island (the countertop should have a one inch over hang all the way around and where you put seating usually requires 12 inches). You'll need to be able to open all appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, etc). Also you have to leave at least 36 inches coming into the kitchen before the island countertop. If you have that room, then yes, you can build an island from cabinets.

Yes, just lay them out, put another nice board on top. Use brackets to attach cabinets togeather. You can also cut through on the other side (without doors) and have an open design. If you have room for a longer board you can stash a couple of stools at the ends. Paint, wood embleshments, and you'll have a beautiful professional looking island.

I hope it all works out well.🙂

Do you already have the cabinets? If not you can also fasten two identical bookcases back to back and place place a top on them. Good luck.
